Flight Paths for Brass Quintet (2021)
This piece was inspired by Malcolm Arnolds 1st brass quintet, which at the start features a dance between the first 2 trumpets until the low brass come in with their response. This dancing duo idea was spread around the ensemble, creating a canon effect. That idea was then turned into a duple feel later on in the piece to make an even dance-ier variation. The name “Flight Paths” came from the feeling of 2 planes doing the dance around each other in the sky with a sense of lightness and calmness.
